The Conservative Councillors Association (CCA) Local Government Conference is a great opportunity to bring together discussion on both local government issues as well as the latest ideas and best practice on campaigning. It was great to see colleagues from right across the country, and we were joined by some really interesting speakers, including the party chairman Richard Holden MP, Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities Michael Gove MP, and Penny Mordaunt MP as a superb after dinner speaker.
Sharing how the LGA Conservative Group can help councillors was one of the two sessions we put on - wittily entitling the session I delivered with Conservative national lead peer William Nunn, 'I'm a councillor - help me stay in here!' - providing an opportunity to talk about what the LGA Conservatives group do, as well as the broader LGA support available. That was the more light hearted part of my contribution, as the following morning I was part of a panel with Local Government Minister Simon Hoare MP and APSE Chief Executive Mo Baines talking about why councils experience S114 notices. Always sobering.
